Staying Cool.

Shutters on the Beach

Since ETC Hotels debuted it in 1993, Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica has been one of the most desirable and iconic luxury hotels in the world. Our ongoing mission is to constantly invigorate this beach beauty by collaborating with the Shutters team to keep its services, amenities and brand relevant. Resting on the sand, but not its laurels, we continue to participate in growing the appropriate fan-base while keeping the hotel fresh in the minds of discerning global nomads and locals who seek a luxurious Southern California beachside experience. Here is a small sample of what we have done for Shutters over the years.

Shutters x Ole Henriksen

When the Obama White House interior designer, Michael Smith, was brought on to convert a section of Shutters on the Beach to a boutique luxury spa, we set out to find just the right partnership for creating a results-driven menu, a highly trained staff, and the best beauty industry spokesperson. We charmed the uber charming beauty guru Ole Henriksen to become that partner. Well known for its service, ambience, food and location, Shutters had no presence in the spa or skin care world. Our partnership with Ole went far beyond providing product. He consulted on design, trained the staff and was available for all media interviews. The result? Well over five million print media impressions earned, an expert staff, a profitable spa, and countless relaxed and glowing guests.

With a Net has been and continues to be an important strategic partner for us. Their ideas, enthusiasm, and efforts have been a tremendous help in positioning our assets in this highly competitive and evolving landscape.

Shutters x Kate Spade

When quintessential fashion brand Kate Spade and Italian bicycle manufacturer Adeline Adeline collaborated on their first luxury beach cruiser, what better place to debut them than at Shutters on the Beach? Each custom cruiser was handcrafted in Italy by Abici and the first 30 were provided exclusively to Shutters on the Beach for their guests. With a Net co-produced an award winning video starring a top social media influencer that showcased the hotel’s enviable location and this new guest amenity. We also coordinated a contest online with all three brands offering a chance to win a trip to Shutters on the Beach and a Kate Spade bicycle resulting in over a million impressions and 130,000 opt ins. Beyond the Beach

We are particularly proud of the “Beyond The Beach” experiences we crafted for the Shutters’ guests. Positioning Shutters as the local expert on unique experiences, we rooted these in the community, working with local artisans, art curators and adventure seekers to create fascinating itineraries that offer guests unique vantages of the city they may not otherwise have access to. From a personal tour of the Venice murals with street artist Jules Muck to channeling your inner aerialist a la Cirque du Soleil. We sought to cover every guest’s aspiration … art, adrenaline, even enlightenment. This unique program promoted local artists and businesses and proved that Shutters knows a lot more than beach.

Instaworthy Moments

The window to the world of travel is most often viewed these days through the lens of a mobile device and archived onto a social platform’s feed. We helped Shutters on the Beach embrace this wave of pop culture in a whimsical way that fit right into the sophistication and fun that is the Shutters brand with a series of interactive art installations. Besides generating over 5 million impressions they provided countless colorful memories, surprising and delighting both staff and guests.

25 years in, Shutters is more iconic than ever, a gorgeous ‘personal beach house’ and happiness lab for all kinds of travelers and locals looking to lose—or find themselves—in the California Dream.

And we at With a Net are still very much in love…
