      <image:caption>Delving into the area’s Spanish heritage, local inspirations, and our multi-dimensional knowledge of luxury hospitality, we convinced the ETC team to christen this new gem ‘Canary’ — an English word with a rich Spanish heritage. Canary, of course, holds many meanings: a bird, a color, a rare diamond, the islands off the coast of Spain… to name a few. With a Net and ETC Hotels envisioned a vibrant, beautiful property imbued with playfulness, celebrating Spanish design, art, regional wine and laid-back coastal luxury with warm, “We can at Canary” service — which became the staff mantra. The name Canary, most importantly, fulfilled the owners’ very first request: it was definitely going to be fun.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>An exotic oasis located steps from State Street shopping, with native sounds and plants from the Canary Islands greeting you upon arrival as you entered the porte cochere, Canary offered a true multi-sensory guest experience. On the wellness front, we partnered with a local spa and fitness facility for in-room spa treatments and local gym access. Next, we dreamed up the Good to Be Bad Mini Bar — a selection of health conscious yet great-tasting impulse-buy indulgences. Every room had a bright yellow yoga Gaiam yoga mat and in room yoga classes on demand on the TV. In addition, there were binoculars, a Santa Barbara bird watching guide, and a downloadable Red Tile Walking Tour and map of the local architectural landmarks. These were just some of the touch points that awaited Canary’s first customers.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>For a name like Canary we needed an elegant yet whimsical icon, one that would say fun, but would also convey the hotel’s luxury stature. Set on Canary, we collaborated with several graphic designers. Ultimately it was David Carter Designs whose interpretation of the bird felt as though it had been drawn by the prolific Spanish artist Joan Miro — it was literally ‘spot’ on. We christened the hotel’s rooftop The Perch and developed programming to attract locals there for cocktails and stunning sunsets. Even today The Perch remains a premier gathering spot for locals, visitors and events. (In a rare move, Canary’s current owner, Kimpton Hotels chose to keep Canary’s identity instead of re-branding, in a nod to its one-of-a-kind look and feel, and its playful DNA.)</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The APPA (American Pet Products Association) reports that between 25% and 35% of people travel with their pets (primarily dogs), so Club Canario was born. The Canary Islands were actually named for the wild dogs, the Presa Canario, that inhabited them, not the birds. A robust pet program was the perfect fit for this pet-friendly destination. Inducted to the Club upon arrival, each four-legged guest was gifted an etched dog tag with their name, a J. Crew dog bed, walking services, special treats, and more — giving Canary guests even more to tweet about.</image:caption>

From the room service menu and ‘do not disturb sign’ to the tag on the yoga mat in the room, every guest touch point stayed true to the story and the lively spirit of the staff. In addition to guest touch points, With a Net created credo cards for the staff that they carried with them to remind them of the “We Can at Canary” service ethic. While Santa Barbara has no shortage of beautiful hotels and resorts, we can proudly say that we hatched the first really fun luxury hotel on the American Riviera.</image:caption>

The male protagonist in the book, Jamie Chen is brought to life by the 2018 UN Ambassador to the Environment — Adrian Grenier and the female protagonist Robin Dell is voiced by vegan actress, environmentalist and animal rights activist Alicia Silverstone.</image:caption>

In five months we garnered over 2.5 million paid ad impressions and secured 55 posts from 39 social media influencers. On the creative side, With a Net also packaged an eye-catching promotional kit to attract media and more influencers to feature the book on their social media feeds. In addition to the paperback and audio book on a recycled thumb drive, each kit comes complete with a CHENDELL branded ‘catch and release’ BugBuster as the author abhors killing anything…even insects.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>For the “Spheres at MacArthur Park,” it was artist Ed Massey’s dream to uplift the image of a long forgotten yet iconic part of Los Angeles. Becoming a haven for homeless, the park’s once picturesque lake had lost its luster. We helped Ed, Bernie and the rest of the Portraits of Hope volunteers fill Los Angeles’s eight-acre MacArthur Park lake with 3,000 brightly-colored inflated vinyl balls. Each sphere was hand-painted by volunteers with non-toxic paints. At the end of the exhibition the spheres were either recycled or donated to local schools and other interested organizations.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>From the Palos Verdes Peninsula to Malibu’s Zuma Beach, for one glorious summer vibrant art covered all 150 lifeguard towers of Los Angeles County coastline. Over 10,000 volunteers (like us!) worked tirelessly to bring the Massey brothers’ dream of a “Summer of Color — Lifeguard Towers of Los Angeles” to reality. Portraits of Hope worked very closely with the County Department of Beaches and Harbors, the Coastal Commission as well as the governments of the numerous cities along the coast to achieve this monumental feat. At the end of the summer, the painted panels were removed and many were sent around the country to beautify schools and areas struck by natural disasters.</image:caption>

While we did not participate in the installation due to timing, we were eager participants for the preparation of the materials. Staff at the Carson shelter in particular confirmed there has been an uptick in awareness of their facility thanks to Portraits of Hope.       <image:caption>In celebration of Shutters’ Birthday, With a Net collaborated with Vosges to develop a limited edition truffle collection containing locally sourced ingredients and a little Markoff Magic. Six of the 1000 boxes produced contained certificates for a complimentary night in an ocean view room at Shutters on the Beach. The truffle collections were available exclusively at Shutters, at Vosges boutiques in New York and Chicago (two of the hotel’s key feeder markets) and through the Vosges website — selling out in one month. The kick-off event was a sold-out Vosges Valentine’s Dinner at 1 Pico Restaurant featuring exotic chocolate pairing for each course. This Vosges x Shutters collection was snatched up online within a month and the Shutters Anniversary efforts resulted in key national and international media placement in the NY Post, LA Times, Financial Times and USA Today.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Due to the success of the first Vosges partnership, while branding the third jewel in the ETC Hotels Collection, Canary Santa Barbara, With a Net teamed up once again with the Marvelous Ms. Markoff and her team at Vosges. This time creating a library of chocolate — one bar for each ETC Hotel — Shutters on the Beach, Hotel Casa del Mar and the newest hotel in the flock — Canary Santa Barbara. Each bar incorporated thematic ingredients to suit each property’s individuality. A select few bars also contained certificates for stays at all three of the coveted properties. The bars were sold in each hotel’s mini bars and online through Vosges. Santa Barbara Magazine, C Magazine and multiple regional publications mentioned the partnership. The libraries were also delivered to key travel agents and media to promote the opening of Canary Santa Barbara.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Originally constructed as a luxury beach club for Hollywood elite in 1926, Hotel Casa del Mar has seen many transformations. In the 1940s, it was a rehabilitation hospital for veterans in WWII. In the 70s and 80s the building was an outpost for rehab and weight loss. After ETC Hotels acquired the building, we infused its health and wellness history into a new spa. The Sea Wellness Spa’s interior was designed with eco-conscious and fair trade materials and the spa’s services included a vast fitness menu of specialized trainers who helped guests take advantage of the miles of ocean view and coastline just outside the hotel doors.</image:caption>

Filmed mostly at Hotel Casa del Mar, the final result showcased the enthusiasm and passion for service that is so deeply embedded in the culture at ETC Hotels, or as we like to refer to them as Employees That Care.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Street art and luxury hotels might make strange bedfellows, but because of Hotel Casa del Mar’s rich history and classical exterior, the owners didn’t want it perceived as a stodgy Grand Dame. As Casa is located in the heart of Silicon Beach on the edge of Venice, we felt it was important for the hotel to infuse some colorful local personality into various property touch points. With a Net recruited Venice artist Jules Muck and collaborated with her on multiple projects, from ‘to go’ bags to menus and coffee mugs. Jules also held talks for local high school students on how street art can becomes fine art. Her contemporary spin on beach culture and art have added a welcome whimsy to this stately beachside jewel.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>When challenged by ETC Hotels to find a way to keep Hotel Casa del Mar from feeling too formal, the team at With a Net though it would be fun to bring some of the flavor of its famous beachside boardwalk inside but in an upscale way. With a Net envisioned an authentic Photomaton booth as though the photo booth’s inventor, Anatol Marco Josepho himself designed it. The first Photomaton booth and the original Club Casa del Mar were both built in the mid 1920s. We paired the custom designed photo booth with the classic Zoltar as featured in the movie BIG with Tom Hanks — a hint to Hollywood in the east. Little did we know that Hollywood royalty like Ted Danson and many more would themselves stop by for a vintage selfies!</image:caption>

      <image:caption>‘Programming’ is a word that gets a lot of traction from businesses in customer service today. It means creating reasons for customers to come back again and again, enabling them to experience something new side-by-side with a brand’s ‘tried and true.’ Creating good programming takes a lot of creative savvy and collaboration. For Hotel Casa del Mar, With a Net has produced many immersive fine art exhibitions featuring contemporary artists like Ed Massey, Ken Solomon and Shingo Francis. In addition, we fostered a partnership with America’s Got Talent finalist, Magician Derek Hughes (we like to think we bring a little magic wherever we go). With Derek, we produced and debuted an original show entitled INSOMNIA, which enjoyed 30 sold-out performances in two limited runs. Loosely inspired by the short fiction of Jorge Luis Borges. INSOMNIA created by and starring Derek Hughes was a unique experience combining humor, audience participation, and magic to explore the line between waking and dreaming. As Hughes described it, “the show is titled Insomnia because when you leave, you will be too mystified to sleep, and too amused to care.” And we were.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>When the Obama White House interior designer, Michael Smith, was brought on to convert a section of Shutters on the Beach to a boutique luxury spa, we set out to find just the right partnership for creating a results-driven menu, a highly trained staff, and the best beauty industry spokesperson. We charmed the uber charming beauty guru Ole Henriksen to become that partner. Well known for its service, ambience, food and location, Shutters had no presence in the spa or skin care world. Our partnership with Ole went far beyond providing product. He consulted on design, trained the staff and was available for all media interviews. The result? Well over five million print media impressions earned, an expert staff, a profitable spa, and countless relaxed and glowing guests.</image:caption>

Positioning Shutters as the local expert on unique experiences, we rooted these in the community, working with local artisans, art curators and adventure seekers to create fascinating itineraries that offer guests unique vantages of the city they may not otherwise have access to. From a personal tour of the Venice murals with street artist Jules Muck to channeling your inner aerialist a la Cirque du Soleil. We sought to cover every guest’s aspiration … art, adrenaline, even enlightenment. This unique program promoted local artists and businesses and proved that Shutters knows a lot more than beach.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>With a Net secured editorial placement for 11 Ravens in Town &amp; Country, Departures.com and Robb Report, a leading voice in the global luxury market, who featured the 11 Ravens Avettore table as a ‘must have’ in their Holiday Gift Issue. We also secured a partnership with Coastal Living Magazine to create and feature a new Hamptons model, we helped to conceive, in the the Coastal Living Hamptons Show Home. This partnership resulted in the sale of multiple tables in this coveted enclave. In addition is spawned another partnership with Eleven Madison Park’s pop-up restaurant in the Hamptons where we debuted the first outdoor table we suggested be designed. With a Net orchestrated and produced a strategic endorsement by Liverpool FC superstar Steven Gerrard. As the icing on the cake, as a result of our efforts, 11 Ravens was invited to build a custom table for the “Ellen Degeneres Show” that was featured in the Netflix Series “My Guest Needs No Introduction” starring David Letterman.</image:caption>

We also coached the founders through multiple aspects of running the business including workflow, staffing, accounting, and sales. We also introduced 11 Ravens into the lucrative world of supplying game tables to hotels by finding and hiring key sales reps and getting the company on the radar of the right interior design firms…11 Ravens was quickly flying high.</image:caption>
